Ship service life extension considering ship condition and remaining design life

چکیده

Reliable and continuous operation of ships is vitally important to the decision-makers. Driven by rising cost newbuilding ships, maintenance actions are needed on existing ensure safe enduring service beyond their initial design life. Extending ship life can provide economic operating profit promote sustainability. Meanwhile, during extended may involve higher failure risk additional expenditure. Therefore, a cost-benefit evaluation imperative for determining optimal duration extension (SLE) associated actions. In this paper, novel method purpose proposed. Two indicators, benefit-cost ratio (BCR) net present value (NPV) used optimize SLE. Using Bayesian updating, information remaining structural condition at SLE decision incorporated into optimization process better inform decision-making. The proposed illustrated fatigue-sensitive very large crude carrier (VLCC) both component system levels.

Remaining Fatigue Life Predictions Considering Load and Model Parameters Uncertainty

Fatigue-driven damage propagation is one of the most unpredictable failure mechanisms for a large variety of mechanical and structural systems subjected to cyclic and/or random operational loads during their service life. Therefore, monitoring the critical components of these systems, assessing their structural integrity, recursively predicting their remaining fatigue life (RFL), and providing ...

Extreme Waves and Ship Design

Recent research has demonstrated that extreme waves, waves with crest to trough heights of 20 to 30 meters, occur more frequently than previously thought. Also, over the past several decades, a surprising number of large commercial vessels have been lost in incidents involving extreme waves. Many of the victims were bulk carriers. Current design criteria generally consider significant wave heig...

Existing Ship Design Methodologies

The design of ships is an inherently complex process. This complexity is significantly increased when the particular ship being designed is a naval surface combatant. Naval combatant designers, or more appropriately, design teams, must not only address the factors common to all seagoing vessels such as hull form, propulsion, and maneuverability, but additionally must consider the selection, pla...
